Which supplement brand is best for better sleep?

1. HerbalGem: gemmotherapy for sleep

For sleep, HerbalGem sells an Organic Sleep supplement in capsules that combines fresh lime, elm and hazel bud macerates with lemon balm, melatonin-free, as a 30-day course, as well as the Noctigem complex as drops and spray. The product page publishes the dose of each bud and states that the product is not intended for pregnant women. The brand describes its macerates as concentrated and undiluted, its harvesting sites are certified organic by Certisys, and it runs websites in Belgium, Spain and Italy.

2. Tied - Arkopharma: Arkofluides vials

Arkopharma’s Arkofluides Sommeil Réparateur combines plant-based melatonin with lemon balm (from 380 mg of leaf) and hawthorn extracts, taken for 20 days, from age 15; it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The brand also sells melatonin-free formulas, such as its Arkogélules Valériane, and Arkorelax gummies. The Arkofluides range is certified organic by Ecocert, and the brand runs websites in Spain and Italy.

2. Tied - Compagnie des Sens: lime bud macerate

Compagnie des Sens’ lime bud macerate is a concentrated mother macerate of fresh buds harvested in France, standardised at 10%, certified organic by Ecocert, at 5 to 15 drops a day for 3 weeks. The brand’s sleep section also includes liposomal melatonin, valerian and mother tinctures.

4. Santarome: Bonne Nuit Bio

Santarome’s Bonne Nuit Bio is a melatonin-free tablet combining lemon balm (400 mg), valerian and passionflower extracts with lime, hawthorn and fig bud macerates. The product page advises against it for children under 12 and for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and says not to use it for more than 14 days in a row. The brand also sells it as an infusion.

5. Herbiolys: Somnolys

Herbiolys’ Somnolys is a complex of organic buds and fresh plants, harvested by the brand in France and macerated on the picking sites, at 15 drops morning and evening as a 3-week course. It is not recommended before age 12, and the brand advises asking a doctor during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What a sleep supplement brand is allowed to claim

European Regulation 432/2012 retains only two sleep-related claims, both tied to melatonin: contributing to the reduction of time taken to fall asleep, with the effect obtained from 1 mg taken shortly before bedtime, and contributing to the alleviation of subjective feelings of jet lag. The regulation contains no sleep-related claim for plants or buds.

The five brands were assessed on 25 October 2026 against the same nine criteria, using the public pages of their websites (sleep product pages, compositions, precautions, sleep sections, country websites, group pages). Only brands that sell a sleep supplement in France are ranked. The first three criteria, assessed at brand level on what each one publishes, are the same in every ranking on this site that features HerbalGem; the next six are specific to sleep supplements.

Scoring grid. Each criterion met is worth 1 point and is marked Yes. A criterion that is not met, or for which the information was not found, is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and is worth 0 points. All criteria carry the same weight, i.e. 1/9 of the overall score each (about 11%). The position follows from the overall score.
